WestWinders
A country band rooted in San Diego,
California, Westwinders blend the sounds of Americana, Bakersfield honky-tonk, old time, and roots rock music. Formed by Erik Olson, Mitchel Harden, and Nick Steckel, the band blends soulful storytelling with raw, authentic instrumentation, creating a sound that is both as fresh as it is timeless.
Westwinder’s music reflects the life experiences of it’s members-
who are not only talented musicians but also hard working tradesmen; songwriter, guitarist, and mandolinist Erik Olson currently serves as a Fire Engineer/ Paramedic and carpenter. Hailing from Little Rock, Arkansas, bassist Mitch Harden is a highly skilled craftsmen and wood worker. Steel guitarist Nick Steckel and Erik have been friends since junior high school and their musical connection is evident and nostalgic, having spent their formative years in various rock, punk, and country outfits.
Westwinders music is full of grit and charm, operating within a framework but never confined to it. Their latest single “Irish Time” is an ode to Erik’s adopted home of Westport, Ireland. Featuring the fiddle playing of longtime friend and multi- instrumentalist Steve Peavey, the song takes the listener on a journey to a pub in the west of Ireland. “Blue Truck” is an upbeat classic country rock number with sentimental lyrics written for Erik’s grandfather and father. Honky tonk sing along “Neon Lie’s” chronicles the always regrettable yet universally familiar tale of a long night out that was only intended to be for one drink.
Westwinders create a sound that’s both familiar and entirely their own. Their live shows are a testament to their craftsmanship, whether performing in intimate venues or larger festivals. Catch them live as soon as you get the chance.
